HOLY TUESDAY IN MALAGA

La Victoria church plays a key role today as three of the six societies whose Malaga processions take place on Holy Tuesday come from this typical district of the city.


- Morning -

The morning offers a chance to admire the work of the gardeners of the city's park in the shape of the mantle of natural flowers made for La Virgen de las Penas, which can be viewed at the church of San Julián in Calle Nosquera. A visit to the temples of the La Sentencia, Rescate and Rocío societies will enable the visitor to take a closer look at their tronos.

- Afternoon/evening -

We recommend that you set off early (17:15) for the Victoria district to see the procession of El Rocío making its way through the Jardín de los Monos and on to Plaza de la Merced along Calle Victoria. If we stay in this area, at 19:00 we will be able to see the procession of El Rescate in the narrow Calle Aguas and appreciate its colourful cortège, the beauty of its patrimony and its unique float with its gothic-style Virgin.

In nearby Plaza de la Merced, you will be able to see the procession of La Sentencia at 20:00 in the attractive architectural setting provided by Picasso's birthplace and the monument erected in memory of General Torrijos.

- Night -

We suggest that you sample one of the many typical dishes on offer in the old town centre before continuing. Get to Plaza del Obispo by 21:30 to admire the efforts of the members of the Nueva Esperanza society in front of the main façade of the cathedral. From here, you can head towards the heart of 16th-century Malaga, Calle San Agustín, to enjoy the procession of Las Penas at around 23:00.

Afterwards, we will make for the Alameda Principal to see the procession of La Humillación, which parades the oldest of all Malaga's Easter floats. To finish off Holy Tuesday, meet up with El Rocío as it comes back to the district to be returned to its temple amidst great popular fervour

HOLY MONDAY IN MALAGA

The processions of this day are of greatest contrast in Holy Week in Malaga, since each of the six societies that carry their eleven tronos or floats has a most individual style.

- Morning -
One of the most intense moments of Holy Week in Malaga is without doubt the transfer of Jesús Cautivo and La Virgen de la Trinidad to their processional floats following early morning mass on the esplanade of the church of San Pablo. It begins at 8:00 but the entry of the images into the Hospital Civil where they are seen by the patients at 9:30 should not be missed. This morning also offers the chance to visit the church of Los Mártires to see the floats paraded by the Pasión society, whose candles are lit at 12:00.

- Afternoon/evenening -
By 16:15 we should be on the steep slopes of Calle Carrión to see the difficult descent of La Crucifixión. Close by, just an hour later, we will witness the vibrant departure of El Señor de la Columna and La Virgen de la O, known as 'the gypsies'; here, the music of the band mingles with the prayers and dance of the gypsy people. Afterwards, we can head to the area around the cathedral at about 18:00 to admire the tronos of the Pasión society in Calle Santa María in the shadow of the gothic façade of the church of El Sagrario. Just a stone's throw away from here, we can see Los Estudiantes wend their way from Calle Cister across Plaza del Carbón to crowded Calle Carretería.

- Night -
A must for the visitor is the unique sight of the procession of El Cautivo as it crosses the Puente de la Aurora bridge (22:00) with a sea of devotees in its wake who have been following it since early afternoon and will continue to do so until it is returned to its temple. Another location not to be missed is the Plaza del Obispo where, towards midnight, the tronos paraded by Los Estudiantes will converge while the Bishop looks on from portico of the main entrance to the cathedral.

To round off this busy day, we recommend that you spend the early hours following Los Dolores del Puente (1:30) as the procession passes through El Llano de Doña Trinidad and Calle Cerrojo, locations steeped in history.

PALM SUNDAY IN MALAGA

The first day of Holy Week. The church commemorates the triumphal entrance of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as the "servant" of the Word of God.

Seven Easter societies stage their processions of Málaga in Palm Sunday parading a total of twelve shoulder-borne floats or tronos. Excitement and colour are the watchwords on this first day of Holy Week of Málaga.

The processions of this day are:

Pollinica, Lágrimas y Favores, Huerto,Dulce Nombre, Salutación, Salud,Prendimiento, Humildad.

ANTONIO BANDERAS PREGONERO IN MALAGA HOLY WEEK

 9th APRIL 2011

The actor, Member since the age of seven, has not hesitated to fly to his homeland to open with his opening speech the Holy week in Málaga. There, wrapped by friends and fellow citizens, flags has an emotional speech delivered full of humor and local winks which did lead to the “people of a foot”.

“I am in Malaga and the heart beats me strong inside the chest because it is Holy week,” said with pride an actor which has been submitted to the public Teatro Cervantes of Malaga with its full name: José Antonio Domínguez Banderas.

“There are so many Holy weeks and ways to perceive it as brethren but I, that really want to talk, it is the people.” Of those who walk in search of hope, for a response. Those people that sometimes we observe and sometimes we are. “Ordinary people, of a foot”, said an excited flags.

“Now I do not want to be me, what I really want is to be all”, explained an interpreter that, in addition, it has insisted that it wants to live Holy week from anonymous, as a Malaga, and that has been denied at the request of the brethren that would be the pregonero in this 2011.

During his speech, preceded by the action of the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra and broadcast live by Puntoradio, the actor has returned to reiterate his pride for being of the land to the delight of the present that, in the same wayfeel horrados by the manifest love in its most illustrious citizen.

2011 HOLY WEEK IN MALAGA

The Holy Week will start on the 17 of April (Palm Sunday) and will end on the 24 of April 2011 (Easter Sunday).

The artist from Malaga Pepe Palma Santander has been commissioned to perform the official poster for the Holy Week of Malaga 2011. Pepe Palma artist represented in the poster for the Holy Week of Malaga 2011 a classical composition in the style of the movie billboards half of the twentieth century. The poster can be seen, the Virgen de los Dolores del Puente and two Nazarenes with the colors of the city, green and purple, which are the reasons players.

The Malaga-born actor Antonio Banderas will be the preacher of the Holy Week of Malaga 2011, appointment was agreed at a meeting of the governing board of the Association of Guilds proposal of its president, Rafael Recio.

Holy Week in Malaga, is an ancient tradition that dates back to the age of the Catholic Monarchs. The city of Malaga is the capital city of the Costa del Sol and is located in Andalusia, the south of Spain, a land that perfectly combines modernity and tradition in the middle of the 21st Century. The most famous of these traditions is, undoubtedly, its well-known Holy Week of Malaga. The taste for Baroque art by the religious brotherhoods and associations and the great amount of processional materials that they have been accumulating for centuries result in a street stage of exuberant art, full of colour and majesty.


Every year, during the Passion Week in Malaga takes out to the streets a real festival perceptible by the five senses: processional thrones carrying images that are swung all along the entire route, thousands of penitents lighting and giving colour with their candles and robes, processional marches, as well as aromas of incense and flowers filling the air as the processions pass by and thousands of people crowded to see and applaud their favourite tronos (floats, thrones).

March 8th Commemorates Womens Rights and Peace

International Womens Day is an occasion and celebrated on 8 March all over the world. Women’s Day date (8 March) is also venerated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. Women from all continents often segregated by linguistic, cultural, ethnic, financial and political distinctions. Women have been started at least ten decades of struggle for social equality, social justice, peace and development.

HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

The history of International Womens Day is the event originated in 1908. In New York, women garment makers proved to demand better working conditions in the company. The Women has worked in very bad conditions and also earned half of men's wages. They died too early from deprived health. They did not have the right to vote.

In 1910, an international conference of women determined that each year a day should be set aside to press for women's demands. International Womens Day stands for equality between women and men.

At this time in England, women were demanded the right to vote. They stands for their slogan "Give Women the Vote" to struggle for women to obtain social equalities.

So International Women’s Day is remembered the battles for a long fought to build a society that is fair to all its members in a society in which diversity, tolerance, safety, social justice and social equality between women and men. And Women celebrated what they have done and are can do.

Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Hundreds of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.

Organisations, governments and women's groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues.

THEME: So while many people may think there is one global theme each year, this is not always correct. It is completely up to each country and group as to what appropriate theme they select.

The King's Speech is a 2010 British historical drama film directed by Tom Hooper and written by David Seidler. It was nominated for 14 BAFTAs, of which it won seven; 12 Academy Awards nominations, of which it won four including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor; and seven Golden Globes, with Colin Firth winning for Best Actor.
