GANGNAM STYLE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

After becoming the most watched youtube video ever and after hundreds of spin-offsand parodies, ‘Gangnam style’ is  now inspiring amazing Christmas light displays.  A house in Perth, Australia, has been decorated with 41,000 bulbs which flash in time to the famous tune.  It is part of a project to raisemoney for the local community.  A video of the display has had over 60,000 views on you tube.  Its creator says that the neighbours love it and that it only adds 10$ per week to his electricitybill.

SONG:JINGLE BELLS WITH LYRICS

Believe it or not Jingle Bells, one of the most famous American Christmas songs, was originally written for Thanksgiving! The author and composer of Jingle Bells was a minister called James Pierpoint who composed the song in 1857 for children celebrating his Boston Sunday School Thanksgiving. The song was so popular that it was repeated at Christmas, and indeed Jingle Bells has been reprised ever since. The essence of a traditional Christmas is captured in the lyrics of Jingle Bells and the sound effects using the bells have become synonymous with the arrival of Father Christmas or Santa Claus to the delight of children of all ages!

POPE BENEDICT XVI JOINS TWITTER

Pope Benedict XVI has launched an official Twitter account with the handle @pontifex. But he won't tweet before Wednesday, Dec. 12, according to the Vatican.

The move was announced in November, when a Vatican official said the Pope (or, more precisely, whoever handles his Twitter account) would be tweeting fairly infrequently, with his tweets "not veering far from his texts."

The Pope's account currently doesn't have any tweets. It follows 7 other accounts, which are all versions of the same account in different languages: German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Italian, French and Arabic.

The new account is not the Pope's first encounter with Twitter; last year, he sent a tweet from the Vatican's official account, coinciding with a new Vatican information site, news.va.

STIR - UP SUNDAY

The last Sunday of the Christian Church Year. A traditional day to make the Christmas pudding.

CHRISTMAS  PUDDING DAY

Stir-up Sunday is the traditional day for everyone in the family to take a turn at stirring the Christmas pudding, whilst making a wish. 
Before Christmas pudding were sold ready-made in foil containers, there were always made at home. They were made a month before Christmas day so the flavours had plenty of time to develop befoere Christmas.

Summing up:

ED and ING ADJECTIVES

Some adjectives have the characteristic of ending in “ed” and “ing”. Let’s ltake a look at the rules.

• We use adjectives ending in “ING” to describe something or someone.

Examples:
Maria is watching a very interesting movie.
I hate that teacher. He is really boring.

• We use adjectives ending in “ED” when we want to describe how people feel.

Examples:
This movie isn’t interesting. I am bored.
Juan is very exited because he is going to travel to Miami for the first time.

Conclusions
- We can use adjectives ending in “ing” for things or people. Remember that when we use “ing” it is describing the person or thing.
- We can use the “ed” ONLY for people (or animals) because THINGS CANNOT FEEL.

We can say:
Felipe is boring. (describes his personality).
Felipe is bored. (he feels bored at the moment)

We can’t say:
The TV program is bored – INCORRECT (because things can’t feel).

-ing adjectives are used to describe things: 'The lecture was boring.'
-ed adjectives are used to describe our feelings: 'I felt very bored.'

WORLK HELLO DAY _ 21st NOVEMBER

November 21, 2012 is the 40th annual World Hello Day. Anyone can participate in World Hello Day simply by greeting ten people. This demonstrates the importance of personal communication for preserving peace.

World Hello Day was begun in response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel in the Fall of 1973. Since then, World Hello Day has been observed by people in 180 countries.

People around the world use the occasion of World Hello Day as an opportunity to express their concern for world peace. Beginning with a simple greeting on World Hello Day, their activities send a message to leaders, encouraging them to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts.

31 winners of the Nobel Peace Prize are among the people who have realized World Hello Day's value as an instrument for preserving peace and as an occasion that makes it possible for anyone in the world to contribute to the process of creating peace. 
    Brian McCormack, a Ph.D. graduate of Arizona State University, and Michael McCormack, a graduate of Harvard University, work together to promote this annual global event.
